How important are looks?

Yesterday evening, while chatting with one of my ex-colleague, Jess, we broached the favourite topic, especially among women ... "Looks".

Most of us, I'm no exception and GUILTY as charged! Men fare no better cos' like hubby .... are always concerned about our looks. It remains in our consciousness from the moment we get out of bed in the morning till the time we retire to sleep at night.

Do I look good? Am I attractive? Am I beautiful? Am I handsome? And so on ... Yes or No, by who's standard? Who defined the parameters to ascertain what is and what is not beautiful? One man's perceived beauty need not be another's view point.

David Hume's Essays, Moral and Political, 1742: "Beauty in things exists merely in the mind which contemplates them".

So, shouldn't we rate our looks or beauty by our own standards? Do you know what's your defined standards? Mine? Sorry, I have no clue at all! "Beauty lies in the eye of the Beholder" but we choose to be disatisfied with what's given by the Beholder

  • My face is too round, square, long etc ...
  • My nose is too flat, high, sharp etc ...
  • My eyes are too small, too big etc ...
  • My body is too round, fat, thin etc ...
  • My boobs are too small, too big etc ...
  • My legs are too short, too long, stocky etc ...
The list goes on and on and on ... Why are we in contempt of the Beholder's standards?

Some features may be rectified through the latest beauty techniques, though there may or may not be risks. Then there are those we have to live with it for the rest of our life. If nothing can be done, why choose to remain unhappy about it? Anyway, these are only external, let's not forget our inner beauty. When possess true inner beauty, it radiates through from within to obliterate whatever small or big, flat or round, thin or fat, long or short features on the outside.

Accept God's given gifts and be GRATEFUL! Over time, gratitude turns us into a happier person, respecting ourself and exude confidence. According to the Law of Attraction, gratitude and being thankful attracts abundance.

Friends ... abundance from the universe comes in the form of friendships too. Irrespective if you have the looks by the conventional standard or otherwise, if you possess true inner beauty, you are in my treasure trove, my pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

To my dear friend Jess, to me you always look beautiful anytime. Needless to say, Vincent definitely shares this sentiment. So, don't let anyone else make you feel lesser.
