Law of Attraction: Living With Diabetes ...

Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. The cause of diabetes could be due to either genetics and environmental factors such as obesity and lack of exercise. The World Health Organization (WHO) has predicted that there will be a doubling of the number of people with diabetes between now and 2030. In Malaysia alone, over 1.2 million people are diagnosed with diabetes and the number is rising. Therefore, it has become crucial for everyone to realise the importance to adopt a healthy lifestyle to contain the disease from progressing.

Being diagnosed a diabetic is not the end of the world. A diabetic can still lead a normal, happy and active life as they did before their diagnosis. Living with diabetes is a matter of taking control over the disease and preventing complications. If you are not proactive about control, it can lead to some common effects such as vision problems, kidney damage, nerve damage, heart and circulation problems. No doubt various modern medicines are available at hand but you must compliment them with the most potent factor of them all, “YOURSELF!”. If it is not possible to eliminate, at least you can decide to minimize or control the root cause of the disease.

Here are some basic efforts within your grasp that can allow you to live fruitfully with diabetes:

  • Begin with a positive attitude. You have the ability to determine your health. Studies showed that happy people have exceedingly lower numbers of health problems.

  • Change of lifestyle. Continue to be proactive about your health. Educate yourselves on the latest information when it comes to diabetes.

  • Educate yourself about your diet. Your nutrition and diet is important towards initiating control. Be inventive about wholesome healthy meals and you can still maintain the joy of eating.

  • Monitor your weight. Obesity and sedentary lifestyle are pre-cursors to diabetes. Adopt some form of regular exercise may it be just brisk walking or cycling or jogging or strength training etc.

  • Water is extremely important. It is nature’s gift. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day will help flush your body system and maintain blood sugar levels.

  • Find the right supplements. Being diabetic requires additional intake of certain supplements such as omega-3, chromium, coenzyme Q10, garlic, magnesium and potassium. It is vital that you undertake any supplemental regimen with the close consultation of your doctor.

  • Finding a natural health therapy that best suit you such exercise and relaxation (yoga, taichi or qigong) or hydrotherapies (such as hot tubs and spa baths) or chromotherapies (colour illuminations).

I’m diabetic too and I choose to live positively to keep the balance between my body and mind.
