It's Easter Sunday ...

It's Easter Sunday!

Christians across the globe celebrate the resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ today. According to the Scripture, Jesus was raised from the dead, three days after his death on the cross. The death of Jesus Christ by crucifixion, was commemorated on Good Friday, 10 April 2009. Easter marks the end of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline and is celebrated with joyful celebration services at sunrise. It represents a time of rebirth, new beginnings and the magic of spring. This is a popular time for baptisms and renewal of baptism vows.

Christians consider eggs to be "the seed of life". The eggs are a symbol of new life just as a chick might hatch from the egg and so they are symbolic of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Easter bunny and colorful eggs have become synonymous with Easter. The rabbit and eggs are ancient symbols of fertility. The Easter Bunny is a rabbit spirit and the custom of an Easter egg hunt began long ago because it was believed that rabbits laid eggs in the grass. Today on Easter Sunday, children hunt for colorfully decorated eggs all around the house as part of the game to win prizes. Chocolate eggs are famously given out as gifts to children on this day.

To celebrate the joyful day today, here's a lovely poem by Joanna Fuchs for you, my dear friends and readers:

~ Easter Joy ~

Jesus came to earth,
To show us how to live,
How to put others first,
How to love and how to give.

Then He set about His work,
That God sent Him to do;
He took our punishment on Himself;
He made us clean and new.

He could have saved Himself,
Calling angels from above,
But He chose to pay our price for sin;
He paid it out of love.

Our Lord died on Good Friday,
But the cross did not destroy
His resurrection on Easter morn
That fills our hearts with joy.

Now we know our earthly death,
Like His, is just a rest.
We'll be forever with Him
In heaven, where life is best.

So we live our lives for Jesus,
Think of Him in all we do.
Thank you Savior; Thank you Lord.
Help us love like you!
