Today, inside my bubble ...

Not a boy but not a yet a man … that’s how I’ve been describing Nick for over the past 6 months. Many of my acquaintances claimed he’s has grown into a handsome young man. Well, choosing not be modest, I must admit that he’s quite a handsome chip off the old block. But Nick would prefer to put it, a better looking version.

He’s now enrolled into college since April to pursue a Diploma in Business Computing before furthering to a Degree in Business Informatics. Time really flies. Despite all the parent-child conflicts, the constant upheavals due his defiance to law and order under our roof, his idealistic perception of life … phooey … I am so grateful that he had turn-out alright.

17 years 11 months and 30 days … one more day and he’ll be celebrating his 18th birthday.

Nick has never been demanding when it comes to celebrating his birthdays or receiving gifts. In fact, he’s never ever requested for parties or gifts. He just takes what he gets. He’s been so accommodating that this year, I had to practically prompt him to celebrate his 18th birthday with his friends. As I told him “so big boy already, where got meaning celebrating with parents one?” So now … as I calculated I'll be a few hundreds poorer by tonight coz I’ve offered to sponsor his birthday celebration with his friends over steaming pots of ‘Steamboat' ... with a cake thrown-in. Hey! This is in addition to his birthday presents! What a mom won’t do for her child …

Coincidentally, this Sunday he will be receiving his Sacrament of Initiation, a coming-of-age sacrament in which he is enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit in order to make him strong to bear as a true witness to Christ. It is the completion of his baptismal grace.

Well, a parent’s journey never ends. There’s more to look forward too, despite all the challenges to find a healthy understanding between us. We will always be there to provide him emotional support and help him explore his identity as he progress into adulthood.

4 Bubbles:

Can we 'tumpang' our best wishes to Nick? Please tell Nick the handsome boy : Happy Birthday and may all his wishes come true and always stay so gentle and good looking. From Uncle Steven, Auntie Cheryl and family.

Wenny, you are a 'graduate mom' now. Congratulations for job well done! More to come....haha

Wah! Got such a thing as "Graduate Mom"? Like that, need to work on my post-graduate degree now. :) Thanks and I'll be sure to pass on the message to Nick when I see him tomorrow morning!

Don't what time he'll be back after his outing and celebration with friends today. It seems one of the friends taking him clubbing!
