What Am I Grateful For This Week ...

I am so grateful for the great experience and the safe journey in a foreign land.

"I think I had a good holiday" ... got this badge from one of the i-Site centres (a tourist information centre) located in every town that we dropped in throughout our drive in North Island, New Zealand.  Interestingly, it describes our holiday to the dot.

It was certainly an awesome holiday albeit an expensive one. Driving, sleeping and cooking in a campervan ... checking into mandatory camper sites where hotel pamperings are out the window. We had to refill clean water as well as dumped our dirty water and pottie ourselves at these dedicated dump-stations. It's definitely cumbersome which needs a whole lot of getting use to but it's a whole new experience ... exciting and stressful all at the same time!

2 weeks ... 14 days spent in North Island only and it's barely sufficient to cover the whole island, let alone to include the South Island as well. We had to skipped a number places of interest in order to remain on schedule. We drove from Auckland to Hamilton, Matamata, Rotorua, Taupo, Napier, Hastings, Taihape, Turangi, Te Kuiti, Waitomo Caves and then back to Hamilton on to Auckland. If all plans go well accordingly, so it seems we might be back again in a couple of years to cover where we left off and the other island.

I dreaded to say "hei kona ra" but i'm also looking forward to say "haere mai" again to the hospitable Kiwis!

2 Bubbles:

My father-in-law had a camper, but I never had a chance to travel with him in it. It sounds like a great way to see a place.

It was Rick ... a whole different awesome experience. A little cumbersome but when used to it, it can be fun. We didn't really maximize our experience with it though as we weren't that much of the outdoor adventurers.
