This trip into Taiwan was never on my travelling agenda ... not in any near distance in time because lo kong always shot it down when I suggested it! Why? Probably it is due to the intimidation from their spoken language there. You see ... both of us don't speak Mandarin. Anyhow, I wouldn't call ourselves 'Bananas' just yet because we do command some sputterings of Hokkien, Cantonese, Hakka and we do understand a little of Mandarin to get us by.
** Our taxi drive had a laugh when Auntie Elaine explained to him what's the meaning of 'Bananas' **
However said, in the end, the itch to run marathons took us there!!! I am so proud of Lo kong for completing his back-to-back marathon successfully and he has qualified himself to a 4th level Marathon Maniac circle ... "Iridium Level".
The rest of the trip was a food trail, exploring the stupendous varieties 'xiao chi' street food, desserts and authentic dishes. Every waking moment was faced with a plate or bowl or a pack of eat from duck tongue, stinky tofu, sausages, seafood, pork rib rice, pork legs to beef noodles and so many more that our stomachs had no chance to empty itself!!
At the end of my very first day in Taiwan, I dare conclude that EATING IS A TAIWANESE'S HOBBY!!!
